Peloton heads out over the reef in Ocean Swims Stadium, Mana Island, Fiji
Tackle a longer distance in the best water in the Pacific
Tuesday, October 15-Sunday, October 20, 2019
Now, the details...
The Mana Fiji SwimFest is fast becoming the go-to event for swimmers wanting to combine a tropical island break with some of the most beautiful swimming water in the world, and for those wanting to have a go at a longer distance. You can use the 10km Solo event as a qualifier for Rottnest Island in February 2020. If you want, you could rack up 16km over the two days of swims, or you could just do 1km. It's up to you.
oceanswimsafaris.com has an exclusive relationship with Mana Island Resort: We act as consultants to Mana Island on this event (we help them to run their swims), and we handle all overseas bookings for them.
Mana Island Resort has come up with a special offer to swimmers who book through us - 30 per cent off wholesale rates until July 31 (after which the discount drops to 20 per cent). Rates are a bit different from earlier years because Mana Island Resort adopted in 2018 a new pricing system that includes all meals (see below for more details). That means, you need not pay any more for your meals above these room rates. (There are some premium restaurants on Mana that you may like to visit that may involve credit towards your bill rather than covering the cost completely.)
Booking through oceanswimsafaris.com also brings you other benefits not available to other swimmers. See below.
The best place to swim
Of all the resort islands in the Mamanuca group, Mana Island is the best for ocean swimming. It's closer to the outer reef, so the water is that much clearer, the reef that much more stunning. And the island's shape and orientation -- long, stretching east-west -- means that, whatever the weather, there is pretty well always at least one side of the island that's just right for swimming.
This year, the Mana Fiji SwimFest offers its 10km swim on Thursday, October 17, and swims of 5km, 2.5km, and 1km on Saturday, October 19. Core dates are Tuesday, October 15, through Sunday, October 20.
Punters line up for the Mana 10km, giving the customary oceanswimmers' salute to inspire them on their way.

To avoid an overnight stop in Nadi and to secure the cheapest transfer option (regular ferry) to and from Mana Island, you should choose flights that get you into Nadi before 1pm and, on return, that depart Nadi after 2:30pm. If you travel outside these times on peak travel days (Tuesday, October 15 and Sunday, October 20), we may be able to arrange special transfers at comparable cost (depending on demand). Otherwise, you may need to consider special speed boat or seaplane transfers.

A start on Mana's North Beach. The atmosphere on Mana inspires swimmers to start with verve.
If you book your Mana Fiji accommodation through oceanswimsafaris.com/oceanswims.com, then your swim entry package will be included with your accommodation package with one swim on either Thursday or Saturday, at a discount to separate online entry fees.
Note: If you choose to stay with other accommodation providers on Mana Island, it will not be possible to take part in these swims.
10km - Swim Escorts & Feeds
Mana Island Resort provides a swimmer escort crew that patrols the course on kayaks and in motorised craft and escorts swimmers as necessary. Note that it is not possible to have private escorts accompany individual swimmers. No craft are allowed on the swim course apart from official crew. There is a feeding station provided offering fruit and water, but it will not be possible to have private feeds left on this station. Swimmers who wish to take their own feeds should carry them with them.
This is what you see if you dive down deeply and hold on to an anchor rope as swimmers come back in over the reef.
